Kids Can Earn $10 From TD Bank for Summer Reading

Did you know that kids in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade can earn $10 from TD Bank for reading 10 books this summer? Here’s more information from their site:

If your child is in grades K-5, participating is easy!

1. Have your child read 10 books this summer
2. Print out the Summer Reading Form
3. Write down the names of the books they’ve read
4. Take the form to the nearest TD Bank
5. Receive $10 in a new or existing Young Saver account

Arts & Ag Tour Hickman Co., TN

We all know that Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning to summer. This year was no exception. With Friday being my last day of school til August, I was on a mission to find something new and unique to do without driving to far. Friday Night I lucked upon this:

So Saturday morning, we took the 1 1/2 hour drive to Centerville, TN. Little did I know I was going to get a history lesson on where Minnie Pearl was from and her song about Grinder Switch. I was just going because it said it had arts and farms you traveled around too. As I was looking more into the details I discovered that when it said Hickman County it meant 24 different locations along the backroads. But we enjoyed every minute. 

First stop, Centerville, TN: 

The nice lady at the Chamber of Commerce told us of the famous people from this area of the state. I loved the pride she had in her county. We slowly went into every open business around the square, including the courthouse, antique stores and a church with nice ladies selling handmade products.

From the square we went to Hwy 50 which has a great winery, Papa Jay Kay BBQ and April's Attic. My favorite was Grinder's Switch Winery which is named for a train switch that we never made it to, but is in Minnie Pearl's song. I do love blackberries.

Overall, this is a great thing for tourism in Hickman County. We didn't even have time (we were trying to get back for a surprise birthday party.) to make it to the lavender farm and goat farm with cheese and soaps. Lots of music was at several places. Everyone was so friendly and proud to tell us their story. This is the 4th year for this tour and it continues to grow. I think this is a wonderful way to share farm living and family businesses of any kind.
